This week’s Top 20 most liked images on Edinburgh O’Clock bluesky account - 24 images every day - a fantastic random selection curated by an algorithm, then liked by followers on this bluesky account.
Your backing track this week is Elkie Brooks with Sunshine After The Rain. What a voice.
In at No.20 we have this crazy sky over Edinburgh taken from Calton Hill. The restaurant is going to open up again here very soon and will be called Cafe Calton.
Number 19 is Polwarth bay windows reflecting the beautiful sunset that I’d left it too late to grab from an open vista. I’m so glad I did because I would never have planned this shot and it’s a firm favourite now.
No.18 is a street shot in the rain - can we even remember what that is like in the midst of this parched climate. Coincidentally I had a bacon roll from the wee orange Bobby’s eatery today.
No.17 is another favourite eatery - Cafe Grande in Bruntsfield. If you’re on this side of town you should definitely go in for Scottish bistro style grub. At risk of this descending into a Tom Eats Edinburgh style post here is their website.
No.16 is my Aurora Balealis shot in East Lothian - not sure if I still approve of this dreadful pun, or even if these straw rolls are actually called bales.
No.15 is Blackness Castle looking - well - black. It’s a cracking wee castle and only 30 mins from Edinburgh.
No.14 is just along the shore from there at Queensferry Crossing - looking moody.
No.13 is this cloud turning a boring shot of the castle into something a bit more dramatic. Thanks cloud.
No.12 takes us into St Andrew’s Square for the sunshine after the rain. (cue for this week’s theme tune)
No.11 is a funky sky over the castle from Bruntsfield Links looking over Ogilvie Terrace.
No.10 is a sunrise sky over a frosty Pentlands with a flock of geese flying through.
No.9 takes us out to East Lothian for this steely long exposure of the Bass Rock and matching wee island roosts for cormorants.
No.8 pulls us all the way back to the Meadows on a haary night.
No.7 is a peekaboo Prestonfield house with a snowy Pentlands backdrop.
No.6 is a summery sunset of the National Monument on Calton Hill - I love the wee figures in this.
No.5 gives us this view bringing the Forsyth Sphere at the east end of Princes St tight togerther with St Mary’s cathedral, the Caley Hotel and St John’s kirk in the west end.
No.4 is our token moon shot this week - the perfect wee embellishment for the fortress.
OK, OK, No.3 is yet another moon shot - I don’t pick these you know? This time we have the Bank of Scotland building on the Mound, and the wifie selling donuts.
No.2 is the Calton Hill view with a glorious sky to bathe it in gorgeous colours.
This week’s No.1 is an Aurora shot with Liberton Tower nestled at the bottom. One of Edinburgh’s hidden gems this 1490’s built fortified place is very well preserved because it was mostly used as an agricultural building for 400 years, and therefore wasn’t altered and improved over the centuries. This image makes me wonder if the Liberton Laird used to see Aurora from his roof back in the 1500’s and if so, what he thought it was?
That’s yer lot this week, I hope you enjoyed the journey.
Don’t forget to follow the Edinburgh O’Clock account if you’re on Bluesky, and help choose which images will feature in the weekly Top 20 over here.
Maybe see you out there.
